2025-2029 Course Improvement Plan including a Course Quality and Maintenance Policy

Attached in the link below is the Course Improvement Plan 2025-2029 which includes a Course Quality and Maintenance Policy. Both documents have recently been approved by the Committee of Management.

The Course Improvement Plan 2025-2029 (CIP 2025-2029) provides a detailed description of what the Committee of Management is aiming to achieve over the next few years. It builds on the work completed in 2023 and 2024 and outlined in the Course Improvement Plan 2023-2027. With the new irrigation system now installed, there is an opportunity in the next few years to undertake the work required to take our course to the next level. The Course Quality and Maintenance Policy clearly outlines the agreed standards for maintenance of the course to ensure its continuing quality and presentation.

Also attached is an Environmental Management Policy.  All of these documents have been developed over the past few months by the Course Sub Committee in consultation and collaboration with the Course Superintendent Steve Pellatt.

Reports on the progress of the CIP 2025-2029 will be provided from time to time.

It is hoped these documents provide our members with an understanding of what work is planned for the course and the aspired standards we are working towards.

Captain's Call - Peter Schapel

The course has been in very good condition during winter with very few interruptions to play.  In my view the drainage work that has been a focus in recent years is certainly now paying dividends.  Particularly so when you consider that July was our wettest since 1995 and our 3rd wettest on record here at the Blackwood Golf Course.  For the full report click here

Please note: The Captain can now be contacted directly on the following email:  captain@blackwoodgolf.com.au

From the Office

Course Maintenance – Greens Coring

On Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd September, the greens will be cored as part of our regular course maintenance program.

During this time, only 9 holes will be available for play.

We encourage members to take advantage of their Club Advantage Card and enjoy a round at one of our partner courses while the works are being completed.

Thank you for your understanding as we complete these important works to keep our course in top condition.

Saturday Morning Coffee & Brioche Update

Please note that Saturday morning coffees and egg & bacon brioches will not be available over the next few weeks.

The good news is they’ll be back from Saturday, 6th September 2025, when Adam returns. I’m sure you’ll all enjoy catching up with him and hearing about his holiday while enjoying your favourite coffee and brioche once again!

Course Report - Steve Pellatt

Following on from the good rainfall that fell in June, the 235mm of rain that we received last month, made this July our wettest since 1995 and our 3rd wettest on record for us here at BGC. It has also brought our year-to-date average to within 12mm of normal, and after the 126.5mm rain that fell in 7 days towards the end of the month the main dam is now full and overflowing.

Taking into consideration that the past two months have given us well above average rainfall, the course is holding up very well as we head towards the end of winter. All areas have good density and coverage of grass, and this coming spring will greatly appreciate the additional maintenance inputs we will be able to implement now that the irrigation system has been completed. Read here for the full report.

Women’s News - Joan Cadd -  Ged Opie

Tuesdays’ weather hasn’t been all that kind to us this winter. It has challenged even the bravest of our golfers.

Blackwood successfully retained the Blackwood Grange Trophy by squaring the match at Grange.

Blackwood was well represented at Country Week. Though we didn’t come home with too many prizes, it was enjoyed by all and some keen golfers are making plans for 2026!

The calendar is getting a little busier at this time of year. The next inter club event is South Metro Zone, Round 1 on 27th October at the Vines and Round 2 on 10th November at Flagstaff Hill. A booking sheet will go online in the next few weeks.

Royal Adelaide Nomads is on Thursday, 9th October at Blackwood.

Handiskins begins on Tuesday, 9th September. Players can sign up in the office before or on the day.

Other upcoming events are Lila Gogler Pink Ribbon Day on 23rd September, shotgun start and the Winter Prize-giving Lunch on Tuesday, 21st October, 9.30 shotgun, 9 hole event.

We look forward to your continued support of all that is happening around women’s golf at Blackwood.

SALA

This year the SALA exhibition at BGC is the biggest and best so far  with 70 pieces of art work from 30 artists. For the first time we have included artists from the local community. We very much thank all the artists for their contributions and helping to make the exhibition so successful. Make sure you view the art work before it finishes on 1 September and also enter the Member’s Choice competition. Vote for your favourite piece of art work for the chance to win $50 on the bar.

Thank you to Blackwood Rotary Club for generously providing the art screens.

History Snippet No 9  - Sue Scarfe

On March 23rd 2025, members held a ‘Birthday Celebration’ with a 9 hole individual stableford event followed by a delicious High Tea.

But there is often conjecture about what is the birthday we are celebrating. Is it the anniversary of the establishment of the Club in May 1930 or commemorating when the Club moved to the ‘new’ course at Cherry Gardens?

It is indeed commemorating the Blackwood Golf Club move from the 9 hole McTaggerts Course on Coromandel Parade Blackwood to our present site at Cherry Gardens. The Birthday celebration has usually been held toward the end of February.  The Cherry Gardens course was officially opened on March 2, 1963. Read here for more information.

Vale to Between the Greens

This is the last edition of Between the Greens. Time have moved on and as the GM – Adam Hayes – has been in constant communication with members with updates on the course, the clubhouse, events and much else around the club, there is an overlap of communications. Therefore, the GM Updates will regularly inform members on a regular basis. Many thanks to all those who have regularly contributed, as well as those who have contributed only occasionally, to the editions of Between the Greens. It has been much appreciated.
