General Manager Update

Friday 31st October 2025

Important Update – Saturday Stroke Competition

A quick reminder ahead of tomorrow’s Tony Mathews Property Consultancy Stroke event:

·       Preferred lies have now been removed by the Match Committee thanks to the excellent course conditions.

·       Starting tomorrow, we’ll begin a three-month trial of a Stroke-only Monthly Medal format — no Par or Stableford options.

·       To help maintain pace of play and keep things enjoyable, a 10-shot maximum (“mercy rule”) will apply on any hole.

Please remember: if you reach your maximum and pick up, enter a score of 10 do not use the “P” (pick-up) function.
Using the “P” button tomorrow will disqualify you from the competition, so please take care when entering your scores.

Thank you for helping us trial this format —  and enjoy your round!

Weekly Course Update

It’s been another productive week out on the course, with 28.5mm of rain recorded — most of which fell over the weekend — keeping irrigation needs to a minimum for now.

The team has been busy with a range of maintenance and improvement tasks, including mini-tining the greens, seeding the 12th mounds, and dusting greens with around 5 tonnes of sand. The roughs have also been fertilised to encourage healthy growth as we move into late spring.

On the irrigation front, several projects were completed: connecting the cart washdown bay to the main irrigation system, repairing a leaking solenoid on the practice fairway, and sanding trench lines across multiple fairways (6, 16, and 17) with the help of our dedicated volunteers (pic below, in their new HiViz BGC Volunteer vests!).

With more rain forecast for next week, the team will continue focusing on course conditioning and preparing for the busy stretch of summer golf ahead.

Balcony Furniture Arrives!
Members may have noticed the arrival of our new balcony furniture, replacing the older wooden setting with a modern, ergonomic, and stylish design. The new pieces are lightweight, comfortable, and allow for a more efficient layout — meaning more members can now enjoy the balcony and its fantastic views.

A special thank you to our Social Committee, who not only contributed a significant portion of the funds for this upgrade but also continue to do a fantastic job creating vibrant and enjoyable social events throughout the year. The addition of a few high-top tables with stools overlooking the putting green and 18th hole has already proven popular, particularly in the afternoons.

By supporting Social Committee events such as the Christmas Ambrose and the Twilight Series through summer, members are directly helping to fund great initiatives like this — and supporting the dedicated team who help make our Club such an enjoyable place to be.

New Storage Cupboard for upstairs Atrium

Members may have noticed our new purpose-built storage cupboard which has been installed in the upstairs atrium to safely store our large tabletops — a great initiative from the Property and Infrastructure Sub-Committee.

Expertly built by Geoff Ward, the cupboard can hold up to 12 tops, providing easy and safe access for staff while helping to de-clutter the stairwells. A new home will soon be found for the Hole-in-One boards.

Pop-Up Art Exhibition in the Breezeway

We’re excited to host a Pop-Up Art Exhibition in the Club breezeway, showcasing the incredible talent of local artists — including our very own members Denny Smalley, Helen Rice, and Sarah Allen from our Admin team. All are part of the Anne Bowden Art Group, led by local art mentor and teacher Anne Bowden.

Drop by and take a moment to enjoy the creativity and skill on display — it’s a wonderful celebration of community and artistic talent right here at Blackwood!

There’s Still Time to Enter!
Entries for The Longest Day at Blackwood are still open — it’s not too late to get involved in this great cause! Whether you take on the full challenge, play a part or donate to one of our teams, every effort helps support the Cancer Council’s vital research. Gather a few mates, register your team, and join in the fun on Sunday, 9th November
