Golf Australia CONNECT System Update

Many members will be aware of the challenges experienced this week following Golf Australia’s transition to their new CONNECT platform. This has caused temporary issues with displayed handicaps and competition functionality nationwide.

Golf Australia has advised that recalculations and system validation are progressing well and remain on track for completion, with competition golf expected to resume as normal from tomorrow (Saturday 11 October)

We appreciate everyone’s patience during this process and look forward to everything returning to normal over the weekend.

Balcony Furniture Silent Auction – Results!

A big thank you to everyone who got involved in the Balcony Furniture Silent Auction – clearly our tables and chairs have been very popular!

Congratulations to our successful bidders:

  • Paul Whatnell – has secured one six-seater with six chairs and has first pick of the sets.
  • Caderyn McEwen – has also snagged one six-seater with six chairs and gets second pick.
  • Sonja Williams – takes home the four-seater with four chairs.

There is still one last six-seater table (but only five chairs) up for grabs — it will go to the highest bidder received by 5pm this Saturday.

Our new balcony furniture is a couple of weeks away, so in the meantime, feel free to head up to the balcony to pay your respects to the old faithful's before they retire to their new homes! We’ll be in touch with the lucky winners to arrange pickup times.

Sixteen-year-old Henry Dunk, a 3.5-year member of Blackwood Golf Club, has recently commenced employment with the Club. A former Urrbrae High School student, Henry will be undertaking a Certificate III in Greenkeeping and Sports Turf Management as part of his new role.

Henry, who plays off a 7 handicap, represents Blackwood in both Division 3 and Sharp Cup Junior Pennants. Head Superintendent Steve Pellatt reports that Henry has made an excellent start, demonstrating a strong work ethic and the right attributes for a successful future in the turf industry.

Henry has his sights set high—long-term goal is to become Head Superintendent at Blackwood. His favourite part of the job? the machinery!

Course Update – September 2025 Summary...

September saw below-average rainfall (46.5mm versus the 91mm average), though regular light falls helped maintain excellent playing conditions with minimal irrigation required aside from watering-in fertiliser applications.

Greens renovations were completed as scheduled despite early-month rainfall, including scarifying, coring, fertilising, sanding, and levelling, with strong recovery now evident. Tees on the back nine were also renovated, seeded, and sanded, with harvested cores used to repair thin areas throughout the course.

Several course improvements were also completed, including new water fountains on the 4th and 6th tees, extensive pruning and bunker work, and new plantings. Looking ahead, irrigation system refinements and fairway weed management will continue, along with targeted fertilising and sanding programs to strengthen turf health as we move deeper into the growing season.

 Important Reminder

Members are reminded not to hit golf balls directly off the course boundary.

We've recently received reports from neighbouring households who have unfortunately found balls close to their homes and assets. While we all enjoy a good practice swing, anything hit beyond the course puts both the Club and the player at risk - including potential legal ramifications and disciplinary action if done intentionally.

Please help us maintain good relationships with our neighbours and uphold the professional reputation of Blackwood Golf Club.

The Longest Day – Team ‘54 Strong’

As a Club we are proud to support The Longest Day, a charity golf event raising funds for the Cancer Council’s vital cancer research.

One of our most organised and enthusiastic groups, Team ‘54 Strong’ (pictured above) —Helen Rice, Allyson Carpenter, Sally Graham, and Gundi Holzer—will take on the challenge of playing 54 holes of golf in one day here at Blackwood on Sunday, 9th November.

In preparation, the team has been ‘training’ over recent Fridays by playing 36 holes to build up stamina for the big day. Their goal is to raise funds and awareness in honour of family and friends affected by cancer, with hopes of contributing to a cancer-free future.

Members can support the team by scanning the QR code to make a tax-deductible donation and support this very worthwhile cause.
