Weekly Course Update

Here’s a quick wrap-up of what’s been happening out on the course this week.

We’ve recorded 36mm of rain (27mm of that on Wednesday), with greens currently running at 10’6” on the Stimpmeter. Our staff have been busy shaping and preparing the mounds on the 12th for seeding, grading fairway bunkers, and continuing irrigation repatriation work — lifting and levelling low sods and sprinklers, seeding and sanding trench lines, and using cores to level the practice fairway trench lines.

The practice fairway continues to take shape, now extended from around 1 hectare to approximately 2.2 hectares, while fallen limbs around the course have been cleared and a 20mm liquid fertiliser lap completed.

More rain expected over the weekend, with a dry spell very likely next week before another front moves through the following weekend.

Looking After Our Holes and Greens

We’ve had some recent feedback about the condition of the holes during our busier competition days, and a few simple habits can make a big difference. Since the rule change allowing the flagstick to remain in while putting, some damage has been occurring when players reach in to grab their ball or use the flagstick to scoop it out. Standing too close to the hole or dropping clubs and other equipment can also cause wear around the cup. If you use a ball retriever, please take care to avoid twisting or forcing it into the hole. A gentle touch and a bit of care when retrieving your ball go a long way in keeping the greens in great shape for everyone. And if you notice any damage that can’t easily be fixed, please let our staff or the greens team know so we can attend to it quickly.

Stroke Competitions – Back to the Traditional Format
We will be returning to a traditional format for our Saturday 'Monthly Medal' Stroke competitions — meaning Stroke will once again be a Stroke-only event, with no Par or Stableford options available. This change will be trialled over the medal rounds in November, December, and January, commencing next Saturday.

One MAJOR change to enhance however, and to assist pace of play and overall enjoyment, is a maximum score of 10 will apply on any hole.

Bunker Raking Tip

A quick note on bunker care — when raking, please remember to smooth only the bottom of the bunker, not the faces. Raking the faces loosens the sand, making them prone to washouts during rain and irrigation and harder to maintain consistent playability. Our course team carefully sets and compacts the faces to hold their shape, so keeping your raking to the base helps preserve that firmness and presentation. If you do need to smooth a mark on the face, please reverse the rake and use the flat top side rather than the teeth — it’s gentler on the surface and helps maintain the bunker’s integrity.
