Mixed Foursomes Championship – Sunday 2nd November

Entries are now open for our 2025 Mixed Foursomes Championship, to be held on Sunday 2nd November, with the first tee-off at 11:00am.

This is a Gross and Nett event open to all members — teams of two, with men playing the odd tees and women the even tees, alternating shots until the ball is holed. It’s always a great day of friendly competition and teamwork out on course.

Members can enter by clicking here - 'BGC Mixed Foursomes Championship Registration'

Pictured are our reigning 2024 Champions Jo Buchanan and Adam Morris, who unfortunately won’t be defending their title this year — so the door is wide open for a new pair to etch their names on the honors board!

Course Update (Past Fortnight)

It’s been another productive couple of weeks on course despite a shorter first week due to the public holiday.

  • Rainfall: 16mm last week and a further 6mm this week for a 20mm total.
  • Green speed: Stimpmeter reading of 10’6”
  • Approximately 7 hectares of broadleaf spraying completed in the roughs
  • Irrigation repatriation works included:
    • Levelling of low sods and sprinklers
    • Seeding and sanding of trench lines in rough areas
    • Removal of old sprinklers from the 16th fairway
  • Practice fairway and surrounds:
    • Sprayed for broadleaf weeds throughout both weeks
    • Enlargement works underway to extend into the newly irrigated area
  • All greens dusted and fertilised

Thank you to the few members who assisted at Thursday’s re-sanding of irrigation lines-working bee.

Thursday Twilight Golf is Back!

The long evenings are here again – and so is our ever-popular Thursday Twilight Golf, kicking off this Thursday, 23rd October!

Play from 3:00pm on the front nine or 3:30pm on the back nine, with hit-off times right through until 5:45pm. Afterwards, stick around for dinner, the Twilight Members Draw, raffles, prizes, and a few new surprises in store this year.

This season runs for 8 events before Christmas, with the one break for the Foodland Corporate Day on 4th December, before we tee it up again from 8th January through to 26th February. That’s 17 twilight competitions in total, capped off with a fun, non-counting Presentation Evening on Thursday, 5th March.

Players will need to complete a minimum of 9 twilight rounds to qualify for the season’s championships and prizes — so get your name down early, grab some friends, and make the most of those perfect summer evenings at Blackwood.

It’s shaping up to be another great season of Twilight Golf, great food, and even better company – see you Thursday!

Perimeter Fence Upgrade – 4th Hole

The first 120 metres of new boundary fencing alongside the 4th hole has been completed this week, with the remaining section scheduled for replacement in the very near future. Just this commencement work has already made a noticeable difference — not only improving the Club’s presentation and privacy, but also enhancing security and allowing staff to tidy and trim surrounding vegetation which has been impacting on the fence over the past few years.

A well-maintained perimeter fence is an important feature for a private members golf ’ club, defining our boundary, protecting the course, and ensuring the area retains the quality and appearance expected of a Club of our standing.

Hole-in-One Alert – Fletcher Rosgrow

A big congratulations to Fletcher Rosgrow, one of our newer members, who scored a spectacular hole-in-one on the 11th during Friday’s comp.

Using an 8-iron, Fletcher sent one down the left side that took the perfect bounce right of the hill (as it so often does on that hole), and disappeared — literally. Playing partner Matt Wilkens had put his tee shot to within two feet, but when they couldn’t spot Fletcher’s ball, the mystery was soon solved… it had hit the pin and dropped straight in!

To top it off, Fletcher went on to post a very solid 37 points and picked up a tidy $1,050 jackpot in the Pro Shop.

Did he keep the ball for the trophy shelf? Not quite — the excitement of the next tee shot saw it head right into the paddock, so there may be a recovery mission in order if he wants the original back for the club trophy...

Well done Fletch — a memorable ace and a fantastic way to announce yourself as part of the Blackwood golfing family.

Junior Development Roll Out

Our new Junior Development Policy is off to a great start! Over the recent school holidays, the first nine juniors completed their rules, etiquette, and scoring test – and we’re pleased to report that all nine passed. It’s clear they made good use of the study notes available on the Club’s website under ‘Juniors’ in the Members A–Z.

A special mention goes to Jack Argent, who achieved a perfect 18/18 score – making him our unofficial Dux of the Club so far!

A big thank you to the parents and mentors who’ve already been involved in supporting our juniors as they complete their development rounds. It’s fantastic to see this program gaining momentum and helping our young players build confidence, knowledge, and enjoyment of the game. If you’d like to join as a Junior Mentor, please get in touch with me at gm@blackwoodgolf.com.au or 8388 2313 – your support makes a real difference.

Tap Beer Special – Rogers’ Amber Ale

There’s a rather tasty bargain on tap for a limited time, enjoy Rogers’ Amber Ale – a silky, mid-strength brew from the legends at Little Creatures.

Velvety smooth and beautifully balanced, Rogers’ weaves together toasted malts, roasted toffee and caramel flavours with just the right touch of citrus hop notes. It’s got the soul of an English ale with that unmistakable Little Creatures twist — rich in flavour but refreshingly easy to drink.

And the best part? we're doing $5.50 for schooners, $8 pints, and $22 jugs to share. through Oct/Nov.

At just mid-strength, it’s the perfect option for those who like to enjoy a great beer and maybe squeeze in another one (responsibly, of course!) Come and give it a try — it’s a crowd pleaser!

Turtle Trouble and a Touch of Magic! - Golfing Story of the Week

It was a strange old evening on the course late Thursday afternoon – humid, stormy skies, lighting alarm required,  a quick 4mm downpour, and then a calm, steamy twilight.

Out enjoying nine holes after the storm were Sean Wood from our Pro Shop team and Club Junior Coordinator, Ravi Sathananthan.

Heading down the 2nd fairway, the pair came across an unexpected visitor – a turtle right in the middle of play! (Now that’s what we call slow play.) By the time they looped back around to the 7th tee, the little chap had wisely moved on.

The story didn’t end there though – because on the very next tee, the 8th, Sean stepped up and scored his first ever hole-in-one! Not an official comp round, but an ace all the same. Sean reports that Ravi was joking about “seeing balls everywhere” as they walked up unsure of the result – but there was only one that mattered. Well done, Sean – and we hope our turtle friend found a safe spot to watch from next time!

Good News – The Longest Day at Blackwood

It’s great to see community spirit in full swing with The Longest Day just around the corner — a charity golf event supporting the Cancer Council’s vital cancer research.
Our own Team ‘54 Strong’ — Helen Rice, Allyson Carpenter, Sally Graham, and Gundi Holzer — will take on the challenge of playing 54 holes in one day here at Blackwood on Sunday, 9th November.
In preparation, they’ve been “training” on Fridays with 36-hole sessions and have already raised an impressive $3,077, while fellow members Chris Paterson and Ben Thompson (Team USsx) have added another $1,899.
Members can still support both teams by scanning the QR codes around the clubhouse or visiting The Longest Day website and searching Blackwood Golf Club. A fantastic effort from all involved!
