Course Update

The greens have responded very well following recent coring and are now back into a full cutting and rolling program. On the back nine, tees have been cored, seeded, and sanded, while regular cutting has resumed across all other areas of the course, with particular attention given to roughs this week.

Looking ahead, a number of minor projects are scheduled for next week, including the removal and reshaping of the shelf on the rear face of the left-hand bunker on the 11th, the new aerator will be out and about again targeting high-traffic greens surrounds areas, and recovery work on the track leading into the approach off the 11th tee path.

In addition, repatriation efforts will recommence next week with BTM back onsite. This work will focus on repairs to irrigation-impacted areas and will progress the repatriation program identified following the completion of the recent irrigation project.

Father’s Day Generations on Course

Blackwood Golf Club had a very special sight last Sunday with three generations of the Stuart family enjoying a round together for Father’s Day.

Patriarch Mike Stuart, now 81 years old and a proud member of the Club for an incredible 56 years (since August 1969), teed it up alongside his son Anthony (AJ), and grandsons Hamish and Angus. It was a wonderful reminder of the way golf at Blackwood continues to bring families together across the generations.

In true Father’s Day fashion, the experience came with a clear storyline: “the dads win!” Mike led the way with a superb 38 points, AJ followed closely with 36, while Hamish and Angus returned 32 and 27 respectively. The hierarchy of age seemed to mirror the scorecard — wisdom and experience prevailing over youth (at least for this week!).

The Stuart family’s story is a wonderful reflection of the long-term connections that so many families have built here at Blackwood. Mike has set an inspiring example as a member for more than half a century, AJ has followed in his footsteps, and now Hamish and Angus are writing their own chapters.

Moments like these remind us that golf is more than a game — it’s a shared tradition, a community, and, in the Stuart's case, a Blackwood family legacy stretching across generations.

Balcony Furniture – Own a Piece of Blackwood History!

Our long-serving balcony furniture has finally earned its retirement after years of supporting members through countless post-round beers, comp wins, eagles, holes-in-one… and maybe even the odd kiss (or chewing gum stash).

This summer, the Club will be unveiling fresh, modern, streamlined furniture to maximise our balcony’s prime position. But before we send the old troops off to Gumtree or Marketplace, we’re giving members first dibs!

We’ve got:

  • 3 x six-seater tables

  • 1 x four-seater table

  • 21 x chairs

They’re sturdy, well-built, and just need a little TLC. If you’d like to snag one (or more) as a keepsake for home, email gm@blackwoodgolf.com.au with your silent auction style bid, best bids by Friday 10th of October will secure their desired item!  A great chance to grab a memento of where your golfing story was made.

That's just not on!

This photo came to our attention today showing no fewer than FIVE long lines of continuous divots on our short practice hole. These divots appear to have been made by a golfer of reasonable standard without using sand to repair the turf, despite the sand barrel being only 20 metres away!

Most of our members take great care of the course and do the right thing, but this type of behaviour is completely unacceptable. Not repairing divots not only damages the turf but also affects the enjoyment and experience of others. This particular area will take months to recover.

Please remember: blatant disregard for the most basic course care can result in a stern warning and may lead to a temporary suspension of Club privileges.

Let’s all continue to look after our course – it’s a responsibility we share and one that most members uphold admirably.

A Reminder on Completing Scorecards

While many of our members now enjoy the convenience of MiScore, a number of players still prefer to use the traditional paper scorecard. Both systems are perfectly acceptable at Blackwood, but we do need to remind everyone that for a card to be valid, it must be completed in full.

Recently we’ve noticed some cards being submitted with only the dots filled in. Please note that this on its own is not sufficient and may unfortunately result in disqualification. The dots are designed purely to assist with the electronic card reader — they are not the official record of your round.

To ensure your scorecard is accepted, please make sure it includes:

  • A written score on every hole

  • Your marker’s score and signature

  • The player’s signature

  • The result box completed with the final agreed score

The photo examples above show the difference between a correctly completed card and one that is very incomplete, these cards are from actual submitted Blackwood Competitions last week!

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in this — it not only helps competitions run smoothly, but also ensures fairness and accuracy for all players. Thank you for taking the extra moment to check your card before submission.

Local Rules on MiScore

For those using the MiScore app, a handy reminder that both the Club’s Local Rules and any Temporary Local Rules are available within the app for easy access out on the course.

To view them:

1. Open the MiScore app

2. Tap the menu (top left corner)

3. Select Local Rules

Temporary Local Rules will always be displayed first, followed by the standard Local Rules.

This feature is a great way to make sure you have the latest rulings at hand, helping with decisions and keeping play consistent across the field.

The Longest Day – Supporting Cancer Council

Blackwood Golf Club is proud to be an official host venue for this year’s Cancer Council initiative, The Longest Day - Sunday 9th of November 2025.

This ultimate golfing challenge tests both skill and stamina, asking participants to take on 36, 54, or even 72 holes in a single day – all while raising vital funds for cancer research and support.

Every dollar raised makes a difference:

  • $10 – helps someone recently diagnosed with cancer access essential information and support.

  • $50 – provides SunSmart resources to schools and early learning centres, protecting children from harmful sun exposure.

  • $250 – funds up to one week of scholarship support for a PhD cancer research student.

  • $500 – supports training for cancer support group leaders, providing safe spaces for people to share and heal.

We are looking forward to strong member participation and community involvement. If you’ve been touched personally by cancer and would like to share your story to inspire others, please reach out – your experience can help drive awareness and support for this important cause.

New Drinking Fountains on Course

Members will notice some changes taking place around the course as we begin replacing all three of our drinking fountains. Pictured is the newly installed fountain on the 6th tee.

The old fountains had unfortunately reached the end of their life, with the harsh local water and calcium build-up in the pipework reducing both water quality and pressure. As a result, they needed to be dismantled and replaced with modern units.

The new fountains will be installed in time for the summer period, ensuring members and guests have reliable top-up stations positioned around the course as the warmer weather arrives. These upgraded units not only provide fresh, clean water but are also far easier to maintain, ensuring their longevity for years to come. Importantly, any of the traditional notices or signage that were displayed on the old fountains will also be transferred across to the new units in due course.

This is a great improvement that will add to both the comfort and convenience of your round at Blackwood - Fountain leading to 4th tee is next!
