General Manager Update

Thursday 6th November 2025

This Saturday – Temporary Adjustments to Club Operations

A couple of announcements regarding Clubhouse Operations to note for this Saturday:

Our morning coffees and bacon & egg brioches will be postponed for one week as Adam's away. We’ll be back next Saturday and continuing uninterrupted right through to the end of the year.

In the late afternoon, we’ll be hosting a large charity function upstairs, so from 2:30pm onwards, Hamish will be serving the afternoon members field from the downstairs Sprig Bar.

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility — it’s shaping up to be another busy weekend at the Club, and I look forward to catching up over coffee again next week!

Last Chance to donate!

Its happening this Sunday, so last chance to get behind two of our Blackwood member teams taking on The Longest Day cancer challenge — one a father–daughter duo (Adam & Chelsea Gunn) tackling 36 holes, and the other a 54-hole strong team (Helen Rice, Allyson Carpenter, Sally Graham and Gundi Holzer) going the distance to raise vital funds for the Cancer Council.

They’re playing in honour of friends and family lost to cancer — so let’s get behind them and show our support!

Course Update – October Summary

October brought exceptionally wet conditions, with 122mm of rain — double the long-term average and the wettest October since 2016. As a result, irrigation needs were minimal, with just 2.82ML of water used for the month.

The course team focused on fertilising all playing surfaces, mini-tining and sanding greens, bunker and tee edging, and tree planting across the course. The practice fairway was also extended to a fully irrigated 2.2 hectares, and ongoing irrigation remediation works continued with support from staff, contractors, and volunteers.

Looking ahead, November will see further irrigation repairs and turf recovery works, along with fertilising, coring, and sanding key areas as soil temperatures rise and growth accelerates.

The course remains in excellent condition — a testament to Stephen Pellatt and his team’s hard work throughout a very busy and productive month..

Pro Shop Operations – Exciting Club Update

In case you missed this weeks email to members, the Committee of Management has formally approved the Club’s takeover of Pro Shop operations, with the transition to take effect from 31 March 2026.

This follows the in-principle agreement reached in June with outgoing Club Professional Matthew Dent, who has been very supportive in ensuring a smooth and transparent process.

After extensive research and financial analysis, the Committee is confident this move will deliver long-term strategic and financial benefits for the Club and its members. Recruitment for key positions — including Club Professional and Golf Operations Manager — will begin shortly, with current Pro Shop staff invited to apply for ongoing roles.

This marks an exciting milestone for Blackwood Golf Club as we continue to strengthen our operations and enhance the member experience.

Former Presidents Honoured at Special Presentation Evening

Wednesday night, following the Members Draw, we held a very special presentation to recognise and thank seven of our former Presidents for their outstanding service and leadership of the Blackwood Golf Club over a collective 30-year period.

Pictured (left to right) are Dale Wilson, Graham Ding, Barry Rowe, Mal Merchant, Kym Garrick, and Con Katsaros, with two-time President Nick Kyriazopoulos unable to attend due to prior commitments but certainly acknowledged in his absence.

Each of these gentlemen shared a few reflections on their time in the top chair — from memorable milestones and challenges to what continues to make Blackwood such a special Club today. Their insights and humour made for a truly enjoyable and meaningful evening.

As part of the occasion, we presented each with their “Enhanced Presidential Portrait” — carefully digitised and refined to bring new life, warmth, and consistency to the Club’s historical collection. These portraits have now been added to our Club website, with a working group exploring modern display options within the clubhouse to celebrate our leadership legacy in a fresh and engaging way.

It was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect, raise a glass, and show our appreciation for these Club stalwarts who have each played an important role in shaping the Blackwood Golf Club we’re proud of today.

We’re pleased to confirm the event has been rescheduled for Sunday, 1 February 2026, giving everyone the chance to enjoy the day in safer and more enjoyable conditions.
